| There was one major problem with the sides.
The plans call for ruff cut panels to be attached to the keel / bottom
/ deck structure. The deck and bulkheads I decided to attach after the
sides, since it would be easier to fillet and tape the sides to the bottom
without their getting in the way. The sides I had previously scarfed and
glassed in one long piece.
The problem was that I missed in the plans
(I think it is only mentioned briefly in the video) that the 2 panels need
to be attached at an unspecified angle to be determined when fitting the
sides. That's what I get for planning to far ahead and for trying
something totally different.
After a few weeks of fretting, my solution
was to cut a long triangle off the top of the aft panel and tape/butt joint
it to the bottom of the panel. It actually made a great joint &
you can hardly tell what's happened. |
