09 / 10 / 99 I purchased 8, 18' 3/4"x2" (after planing) mahogany benders.  This was 2 extra in case of any brakage.  I had the yard finish them S4S and I put them on within a couple days so that they would still be a bit "green".  I sprayed water on them until they didn't dry out quickly.  Even with these precautions I had the first one snap in half before I even got it completely in place.  Mahogany can have some pretty strange grain.  I will use the remaining pieces in other places on the boat.

The top rub rails were built out of 2 mahogany benders. The inside one I rabbited to fit around the top of the sides. A sketch is available. Then they were screwed together from both sides through the side extending above the deck and then plugged.

09 / 10 / 99 Lots of clamps are necessary for this.  This process was not easy since both rails are trying to get off the boat at the same time and what with the glue all over everything and trying to screw them on ... Well it just isn't much fun.

The biggest problem was about 6' from the stem where the hull sides extended only 1/4" above the deck.
