I purchased 8, 18' 3/4"x2" (after planing)
mahogany benders. This was 2 extra in case of any brakage.
I had the yard finish them S4S and I put them on within a couple days so
that they would still be a bit "green". I sprayed water on them until
they didn't dry out quickly. Even with these precautions I had the
first one snap in half before I even got it completely in place.
Mahogany can have some pretty strange grain. I will use the remaining
pieces in other places on the boat.
The top rub rails were built out of 2 mahogany
benders. The inside one I rabbited to fit around the top of the sides.
A sketch is available. Then they were screwed
together from both sides through the side extending above the deck and
then plugged.
