02 / 17 / 01 For oars I used David Goodchilds design. It calls for:
  • 2 pieces of plywood for blades
  • 2 sections of PVC pipe
  • 1 closet dowel
I used schedule 80 conduit because it would flex much less than water pipe. I used the whole dowel inside the bottom half to give more rigidity.
02 / 17 / 01 I like the oars because they break down and store under my seats well. You can use the bottom half as a paddle as well. Because I didn't know what length to make the oars I used the dimensions in the design. In using them I found that they were about a foot too long, so I shortened the top by a foot making them 8' overall. After using them I feel they might be better about 6" longer, however it's easy to make them shorter, but I'm not going to make them longer.
