Home Cockpit Steering 2Previous | NextSpars
04 / 01 / 00 The parts built earlier for the seats were installed.

Flotation was added in the form of Dow blue board behind the seat backs.  The section to the left was divided off and finished for a small "handy" storage for items such as sunglasses, sunscreen or other items that you don't want cluttering the cockpit..  Under the seats a layer of flotation was added to the stationary portion.

04 / 18 / 00 The seat backs were added with a hole to access the storage shaped like the windows of the cabin.  All interior joints in the cockpit were filleted to make them more attractive.  It also keeps water and sand out of the corners.  the exterior joints were routed/sanded to be nice and round.  A 6 oz. tape of fiberglass was placed over them since they will receive quite a bit of abuse.
04 / 18 / 00 The splash coamings were built of strips of mahogany as described in the plans. The seat hatches provide easy access to a large area of storage for bigger items.  They fit quite well, but it wasn't without considerable time and effort.  I didn't like the way the seat back / deck / cabin bulkhead joined, so I filled it with a bit of blue board and epoxied over it to round out the corner.
