The steering clutch
allows the wheel to spin freely or stops its motion in a desired position.
The Stevenson design places the braking (clutch) mechanism on the shaft
outside of the lazerette. My space was limited there so I placed a brake
inside the lazerette that can be acutated by a knob on top of the aft deck.
I have made a drawing of my steering clutch.
I made it with a piece of threaded rod with a know on one end and a rubber
table leg cap on the other. I placed a wood insert in the deck and a wood
plug with a wood insert in the rubber cap. |

Here you can see inside the lazerette. |
